monday song #73: wake
lyrics this is the first monday song i’ve posted that wasn’t written entirely by me. this song was composed by my band walrus, where i’m lucky enough to play with two outstanding musicians, christian riley and joaquin spengemann, who cowrote the tune.
monday song #72: inside
lyrics here’s something of a love song. i don’t think i’ve done much in this style. i think watching “bobby vinton” last night in goodfellas may have had some impact, though the chords were already in place. it was fun trying to sing old-fashioned.
monday song #71: quiet
lyrics this one started as an experiment. bass chords on my new rickenbacker. added piano and a beat from reason. that’s the core. strings, mellotron and chamberlain saxes to flesh out the sound. improvised melody on a scribbled lyric. harmony. that’s pretty much it.
monday song #70: 18 years
lyrics this one is for my wife, kristin. sunday was our wedding anniversary, and since she was away with the kids, i had the day to write a song. this is one of the few that was conceived, composed and recorded all in a day. it’s a little loose around the edges, but the structure […]
monday song #69: sad song
lyrics note: it’s been over a year since i’ve posted any music. during that time i’ve recorded and mixed a new album, ‘monday songs,’ which will be out on the lazy bones label, aug 1. i’ll put a link up at that time. between now and then i hope to add a few more songs: […]
monday song #68: debbi wallace
lyrics here’s the flipside of chump’s first single. it was the world’s first double b-side. gallow’s humor to the end.
monday song #67: stoopid
[WARNING: Music should be played very loud.] lyrics “we heard you missed us. we’re back!!” long forgotten and seldom heard, the debut album from chump. (the ‘h’ is backward) side one. track one.
monday song #66: (pump up the) valium
lyrics i’m going to let this one speak for itself.
monday song #65: another perfect day
lyrics this started as an attempt at an original song for the kids to sing for new year’s, as is our tradition. but the further i went, the heavier it got, and in the end, it was just too much fun to resist going all the way with it. this one definitely sounds good loud!
