this song is the end product of an improvisation. i sat at the piano, without any ideas, and started playing and singing. the result is quite faithful to the original.

after adding lyrics and playing a few instruments, i arrived at what you hear. the only places it varies from the original is in two chord changes, where i came up with the wrong chord (as opposed to the chord i was hearing) in the performance, but pushed on anyway. i corrected these in the final version, sticking to the original arrangement.
i was under the gun this week, so the video is something of a hack: a timelapse from my back porch, together with video of lake washington. it’s not really tied to the song in any way, but it’s nice to look at, i think.
